I’m always on the lookout for new, exciting, and lightweight paint and drawing applications specifically designed for Windows tablets, and the new Leonardo Paint Application certainly hits on all the right notes.

One of the first things you’ll notice about Leonardo is how fast it loads. On my Surface Pro 3 for example, it loaded in less than half a second.

The second thing you’ll notice his how intuitive it is to use. Leonardo operates smoothly and offers a wide variety of customization options that will make Leonardo a real goto drawing application for me. Left handed? No problem, there’s a setting for that.

I’ll take a deeper dive into Leonardo at a future date, but for now I just want to share some of Leonardo’s main features.

Leonardo Paint Application Features

Tablet ready: Leonardo is designed to work out-of-the-box on Microsoft Surface and all other Windows, with support for to pressure sensitivity, multi-touch and for high resolution displays. Leonardo also supports Wacom tablets.

Infinite canvas: I’m a big fan of the infinite canvas and Leonardo does it well. If you’re not familiar with infinite canvas, think of is a sketchbook with no borders.

Handy tools: Leonardo features some great tools for drawing lines and shapes, including perspective. I was particularly impressed with Leonardo’s custom line stabilization and smoothing options.

Final Thoughts

Leonardo is currently in beta, and its developer, Hennig Tegen promises more features will be coming soon. I was very impressed with the program and will make it a permanent fixture in my drawing toolbox. I can’t stress enough how lightweight a program Leonardo is – it makes a world of a difference on Windows tablets. I’m also looking forward to seeing what else Hennig Tegen has planned for Leonardo.
